Study Abroad Tip
Don't Over Pack
It is no overstatement to allege that your packing ability can
either 'make or break' your study
abroad trip. After all, you will be residing in a different
destination for a large amount of time and your baggage is all
that you will have from your home. However, fighting the urge
to pack virtually all the contents of your dormitory will prove
to be more arduous than you believe. That is why it is most
effective if you set out a plan of your routes along with the
activities that you may do, and use that as a cornerstone to
elect what you should or should not take.
The mantra of the international
student is: avoid over packing at all cost. Some will
complain about forgetting some things at home, but then it
is universally better to choose supplies when you have made
it than ship items you do not need back home (which will cost
a lot of money) or worse, carry heavy and bulky luggage
everywhere you go. Incidence of thieving typically takes place
because a traveler gets worn out of holding his/her bags,
sets them down, and then leaves them unattended.
Students on study
abroad programs should be particularly mindful of their
documents and identification, and any other important documents
that will prove their legal stay in the area. Make sure that
your passport and visa are securely positioned in your traveling
bag, ideally in an interior bag. You can also purchase a money
bag to contain your airline tickets, money, travelers checks,
credit cards, ATM cards, International
Student Identity Card, Hostel membership card, and Travel
Pass, and put it under your clothes. You should also take
a Xerox replicate of everything important and keep it in an
entirely unique location.
Then comes the more enthralling component: packing
your clothes. It is understandable that you want to look smart
- after all, you are solo in a unique nation and you need
to be liked by the natives as well as additional college students
on a study abroad curriculum like you. But if you can do this
by combining one 'formal' outfit, two pairs of long pants,
3 to 4 cotton t-shirts or blouses, 2 pairs of shorts, a skirt
(for girls), and 3-4 polo shirts (for boys) - you are en route
to experiencing the travel experience of your life! You can
even add a trendy bathing suit for beach destinations on weekends.
It is also requisite that you partake in not run out of fresh
socks and underwear, so bring at least seven pairs of both
things. A good tip is to take black or navy clothing as dirt
does not become instantly conspicuous on them (sounds revolting,
but you will learn...) and the most comfortable pair of shoes
you have for all the incessant hiking and frolicking that
you will do. Leave those irritating shoes home!
You must also be aware of the climate of the country you
are going to. Sudden changes in temperature will give you
'a cold', so take medications for common illnesses. You might
also need to bring sunscreen, a light rain jacket, insect
repellant, a hat, and a water bottle for outdoor trips and
sightseeing. You ought to bring toliet articles, but if you
truly want to lessen your burden, you might opt to acquire
them when you arrive as virtually all items are readily offered
in major cities. Female students who like a particular brand
name of tampons or sanitary pads had better bring a months
amount, as with men and their shaving creams and razors. When
you have packed what you think is indispensable for you to
live in a foreign country, attempt toting your luggage for
a few blocks and up and down some considerable and steep stairways.
If you just can not handle it all without help, re-check and
reject the less imperative items.
International
Study Abroad program alums are the leading information
references that you can find. If you happen to know someone,
you could ask that individual what else you could necessitate
for your adventure. Always Keep in mind that your luggage
is your little piece of home in the foreign town, so do your
out-and-out best not to lose any of it.
